Able to apply the navigational theory and practices for safe navigation of a sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters. On-water coastal navigation skills elements are contained in the ASA103, Basic Coastal Cruising, ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising, and ASA 106, Advanced Coastal Cruising, in progressively increasing levels of detail.
ASA 103 is intermediate sailing. There is something for the beginner as well as the experienced sailor.
Note: this and all the foundation courses are live aboard courses so you dont have to worry about finding a place to stay while you are in the islands.
This is ASA 117 and a primer to Celestial Navigation. It is a hands on course designed to equip sailor with the skills necessary to get a noon fix anywhere in the world without site of land or a GPS. This is emergence navigation and a must for anyone wishing to do blue water cruising.
This is a three day intensive course. The wind will dictate the direction we sail. There will be a 24 hour run with watches through the night.
$1000 each with a crew of 4
This is the final certification required to charter your own boat without a captain. It covers everything about cruising on sailboat over 30 feet in foreign waters. This is a liveaboard course on a 40 foot boat. We will look at the weather prior to the weekend and design a plan for a trip through the San Juans and perhaps the Gulf Islands. Prerequisites for this certification are ASA101 and ASA103.

Our captains and instructors are often contracted to join the owner of a yacht to provide support and instruction on maiden passages and deliveries If the vessel is eligible, prequalified students seeking experience and qualifying sea-time may join as crew. In this way, the delivery costs can often be fully covered by the student educational program

This is a Offshore Passage-making Course administered through American Sailing Association. Those seeking this certification will need the prerequisite ASA certifications. Namely ASA 101, 103, 104, 105, and 106. In addition to the opportunity to achieve the highest level of sailing endorsement offered by the American Sailing Association; eligible candidates will learn how to navigate at sea without the aid of modern electronics with an introduction to Celestial Navigation (ASA 117).
There is a four student minimum.
