PRO TIP 1
Always pay attention to the other boats on the horizon in as much as you can see them. They can give you good information about the water ahead or the conditions on their way to you.
Are they heeled over?
Going backward?
This can be used to see if the area you are heading to is going to be windier or not. You may decide to reduce sail or avoid the area altogether. Sailing around islands this can be handy. The same concept can be applied to a larger scope. If you are say: leaving from Hawaii to sail to the West Coast of North America and a boat is getting ready to leave a day or two before you you may want to get their contact information to apply the same concepts mentioned above when your 1000 miles from anything.
